What the Kofi Annan Fellowship gives you

You will receive a full scholarship for the full-time MBA programme at ESMT Berlin. This covers all tuition fees and course materials. It includes a monthly living allowance for the duration of the programme. It also includes a return flight to Berlin, as well as support with your visa application, finding accommodation and taking out insurance. The scholarship is funded by the Kofi Annan Business School Foundation, a charitable organisation based in The Hague, and awarded through ESMT. The aim is to train socially responsible leaders who will subsequently return to their home countries to promote the economy of their region.

Who can apply

• Where you live: You live in one of the least developed countries, a landlocked developing country as defined by the United Nations, or in Palestine. Other countries may be considered on request.
• Degree: You must hold at least a bachelor’s degree in any subject area.
• Work experience: You have at least 3 years’ professional experience since completing your first degree.
• Admission test: You have a GMAT result, the standard entrance examination for MBA programmes.
• Financial need: It is not possible to fund a degree course in Europe from your own resources. The selection process takes into account both your academic achievements and your financial need.
• After graduation: You undertake to return to your home country or region and to work there for at least 3 years in order to promote its economic development.

How to apply

There is no separate application form for the scholarship. You apply online for the ESMT full-time MBA, and the scholarship will be awarded to you following your admission. If you would like to check in advance whether you meet the eligibility criteria, you can send your CV to ESMT in advance.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is highly selective: only a small number of scholarships are awarded each year. You must live in one of the least developed countries or in a landlocked developing country, hold a university degree and have three years’ professional experience. This keeps the pool of applicants small, but the requirements are high, as you are simultaneously applying for admission to a top-tier MBA programme. If you clearly meet the criteria regarding country of origin and work experience, and can demonstrate both a genuine financial need and a strong track record of achievement, your prospects look good.
