What the CEMEA Erasmus+ mobility programme gives you

You get a fully funded stay in another European country as part of your training in youth work or social work. This can be a short observation visit or a longer work placement, from about a week to several months, in a partner organisation abroad. You work inside a foreign team, run activities, meet other professionals and get to know daily life in another country. Ceméa organises and pays for the whole stay, so you do not receive a monthly cash amount. The programme is run by the French network Ceméa (Centres d'Entraînement aux Méthodes d'Éducation Active) and funded through the EU's Erasmus+ and the Franco-German Youth Office (OFAJ). Ceméa works with at least 30 partner organisations in 22 European countries, including Germany, Italy, Portugal, Poland, Belgium, Spain, Greece, Ireland, Finland and Hungary.

Who can take part

• Your role: You are training for, or already working in, education or social work, for example leading youth activities ("animation") or social support.
• Your training: You are enrolled in a Ceméa professional qualification at level 4 to 6 (such as CPJEPS, BPJEPS, DEJEPS or DESJEPS), or you are a trainer, coordinator, staff member or volunteer in the Ceméa network.
• Where you study: You take part through a regional Ceméa branch in France, where the stay abroad is built into the training.
• Your interests: You want to work on social inclusion, intercultural education, supporting migrants and young people in difficult situations, and building European networks.

How to apply

You do not apply on your own for a separate scholarship. Instead you join a professional training course run by a regional Ceméa branch, and the stay abroad is part of that course. To get started, contact the Ceméa branch in your region about enrolling.

How realistic are your chances?

Because the stay comes bundled with a Ceméa training course, the real question is getting a place on that course, not winning a separate award. If you already work in youth or social work in France, or you are training for it, and you join through a regional branch, taking part is realistic: more than 600 professionals go abroad this way each year. The one hard filter is that you must be inside the Ceméa network to begin with.
