What a Graduate Computing Assistant gets

For a part-time job at Georgia State University (GSU) in Atlanta, USA, you will receive a monthly salary plus a tuition waiver (your tuition fees will be covered). You will provide computer and IT support to the university’s departments, degree programmes and laboratories, and in return you will receive a salary and have your tuition fees covered.

The department hiring you will determine your salary. It depends on your field of specialisation, professional experience and duties. As a guideline, the GSU pays at least approximately 1,850 EUR (2,000 USD) per autumn or spring semester and approximately 925 EUR (1,000 USD) for the summer semester, subject to full exemption from tuition fees. The exemption is either full (you pay only an administration fee of 35 EUR / 37.50 USD) or amounts to 50%, depending on your salary and your weekly working hours. You must work up to 20 hours per week and at least 8 hours per week to be eligible for the tuition fee exemption. You must have health insurance: take out student insurance or provide proof of equivalent cover. Please note that there is no paid holiday and no paid sick leave.
