UCL Hong Kong Alumni Scholarships

You will receive up to about EUR 23,000 per year (£20,000) as a contribution towards your tuition fees for your Bachelor’s degree at University College London (UCL) in the United Kingdom for up to four years. Only one scholarship is awarded each year. It is funded by the UCL Scholarship Hong Kong Foundation and named after the donor for that year. To retain the funding, you must meet the academic requirements each year and achieve at least an ‘Upper Second Class Honours’ (a solid degree, above the mid-range grade). Poor results may lead to the loss of the scholarship or mean that you have to repay the funds.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are starting a full-time bachelor’s degree at UCL and have applied via UCAS, the central application system for higher education institutions in the UK.
• Origin: You hold a Hong Kong identity card with indefinite validity, or you are a Chinese national and have completed at least five years of full-time education in Hong Kong and/or China during the eight years prior to commencing your studies at UCL.
• Field of study: Every Bachelor’s degree programme, with the exception of the six-year MBBS/BSc degree programme in Medicine.
• Fee status: You pay tuition fees at the overseas rate (international rate).
• Not in the UK yet: You do not attend school in the United Kingdom and are not yet enrolled at UCL.
• Financial need: Without this support, you would not have been able to fund your studies at UCL.
• No other award: You have not accepted any other scholarship or student grant.
• Volunteering: You are willing to volunteer for UCL, the UCL Hong Kong Club or the Foundation both during and after your studies.

How to apply

Please email your application form, a table detailing your family’s financial circumstances and an academic transcript to the Foundation by 5 Hong Kong time on 27 April 2026 at the latest. If you are shortlisted, you must submit evidence of your financial circumstances in July and attend an interview in Hong Kong at your own expense, which usually takes place in July or August. A selection committee will then make a decision.

How realistic are your chances?

As only one scholarship is awarded each year, competition is very fierce, even though only a small number of people are eligible. Your chances depend on two factors: good grades and a clearly demonstrated financial need. First, take a look at the table on your family’s financial situation. Both a comfortable surplus and an excessive deficit can lead to exclusion, so an honest self-assessment will save you a lot of trouble.
