About this scholarship

What the Erasmus+ mobility grant gives you

For a study period abroad, you will receive approximately 500 EUR per month for a maximum of 12 months. This is a mobility grant designed to offset the higher cost of living in the host country, but it does not cover the full cost of your stay. Upon your return, you will also receive a flat-rate travel allowance, the amount of which depends on the distance between Lisbon and your host university. In addition to this financial support, you will not pay any tuition fees at the host university, you will receive a reduction of approximately 10% on your Lusíada fees during the exchange, and the credit points (ECTS) earned abroad will be fully credited towards your degree. You will also receive a free language course through the EU’s online language support programme. The grant is administered by the Universidade Lusíada de Lisboa as part of the EU’s Erasmus+ programme.

Who can apply

  • Your university: You are enrolled at the Universidade Lusíada de Lisboa in Portugal.
  • Where you go: You will spend 5 to 12 months at a partner university in another European country.
  • Study year: You must be in at least your second year of study. Students in their first and final years are not eligible to apply, as final-year students do not have enough time to have their credit points recognised.
  • Timing: Applications must be submitted during the academic year preceding the year in which you wish to study abroad.
  • Field of study: Your degree subject is one of the subjects offered by Lusíada as part of the exchange programme, such as architecture, law, economics, psychology, engineering, marketing, design, international relations, social work or tourism.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are studying at Lusíada.
  • Grades: Places will initially be allocated to students in their final year of study who have the fewest failed exams and the highest average mark from the previous year.

How to apply

You must complete the online form on Lusíada’s Erasmus+ mobility page, list your three preferred host universities in order of preference, and attach a personal statement in Portuguese and English. The application deadline is once per academic year. Once the provisional results have been announced, you will have 5 working days to confirm your place in writing.

How realistic are your chances?

Only students at Lusíada in specific subjects and years of study may apply, meaning you are competing within your own university rather than against the general public. Places are allocated based on year of study, failed exams and marks. A well-suited applicant with a strong academic record and few outstanding exams has good prospects. If you also receive state support or can demonstrate financial hardship, this will work in your favour.
