Lusíada University (Lisbon/Portugal) - Mobility grants for students - Erasmus

What you get

You will receive a monthly grant of approximately 500 EUR to enable you to complete part of your studies at a partner university in another European country. The grant covers the entire duration of your stay abroad, which lasts from 5 to 12 months (up to one academic year). The exact monthly amount is set each year by the National Agency and the university and may therefore vary. The grant covers the additional living costs whilst abroad, but not your full living costs. In addition to the grant, you will receive:

• Travel allowance: A lump sum paid upon your return, calculated on the basis of the distance between Lisbon and your host town.
• No tuition abroad: You do not pay any tuition fees at the host university, and your Lusíada fees are reduced by approximately 10% during the exchange. This fee reduction does not apply if you are already receiving a merit-based grant or a government scholarship.
• Credit recognition: The ECTS credits you earn whilst studying abroad (the European Credit Transfer System credits) will count towards your degree.
• Extras: a free online language course, accident insurance covering the entire duration of your stay, and access to the European Health Insurance Card.

The Universidade Lusíada de Lisboa runs the degree programme, which is co-funded by the EU’s ‘Erasmus+’ programme via the Portuguese National Agency.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled at the Universidade Lusíada de Lisboa.
• Field of study: You study one of the eligible courses. These include Architecture, Design, Law, Economics, Management, Marketing, Psychology, International Relations, Social Work, Tourism, several Engineering courses, Accounting, Communication and Multimedia, Jazz and Modern Music, Human Movement, Security Policies and Social Service.
• Study year: You are at least in your 2nd year when you go abroad. First-year students and students already in their final year cannot apply.
• Timing: Applications must be submitted in the academic year preceding the year in which you wish to study abroad.
• Exams passed: By the application deadline, you must have passed all modules from previous years, with none remaining outstanding. You must also have passed all modules for the current academic year by 31 July; otherwise, you will lose your place at university.
• One go: You can only take part in an Erasmus+ study placement once.
• Priority: Preference is given to students in their final year of study who have the fewest failed modules and the highest average mark, and who also receive a government grant or can demonstrate a clear financial need.

How to apply

Complete the online application on the Erasmus+ microsite or via the e-Lusíada portal. Select three host universities in order of preference and attach a personal statement in English and Portuguese. By applying for the exchange, you are also applying for the grant, so you do not need to complete a separate form. Following the selection process, you will receive provisional results, and the final placements will be confirmed after the final exams.
