University of Coimbra (Coimbra/Portugal) - University of Coimbra Prize - open to all Portuguese citizens

Benefit

You will receive a medal, a diploma and a Santander Research & Innovation grant worth 15,000 EUR. The funding will be used to finance scholarships or a project in a field agreed with you, the prize winner. The funding is awarded for one project cycle. This is a lifetime achievement award, not a monthly scholarship. The University of Coimbra awards the prize once a year with the support of Fundação Santander Portugal; it has been awarded every year since 2004.

Eligibility

• Nationality: You are a Portuguese citizen.
• Field: Any profession can win. The prize names culture, economics and management, and science and innovation as examples, but other fields count too.
• Achievement: You have made a significant and recognised contribution to your field and have supported individuals, families, businesses or communities in their development in an inclusive and sustainable way.
• Living recipient: The prize is awarded to a living person. It cannot be shared and is no longer awarded after the recipient’s death.
• No self-application: You cannot apply yourself. Only members of the awards jury may nominate candidates.

How to apply

There is no public call for entries and no application form. A jury comprising members from various academic disciplines, chaired by the Rector of the University of Coimbra, nominates and selects the winner. The decision will be announced by mid-February, and the prize will be awarded during the university’s anniversary celebrations on 1 March.
