About this scholarship

What the Erasmus+ mobility grant gives you

You will receive a monthly Erasmus+ grant of around 500 EUR per month. The exact amount depends on which country you are going to. For each cycle of study (undergraduate, postgraduate or doctoral), you can receive funding for between 2 and 12 months. This funding is intended to cover the additional living costs incurred whilst studying abroad; it is not a full scholarship. If you are on a low income, you will receive a fixed supplementary amount. If you have a disability or a health condition, you can apply for additional support based on your proven actual costs. The funding is administered by the University of Minho (UMinho) in Braga, Portugal, as part of the EU’s Erasmus+ programme.

You can use the grant two ways: a study period at a European partner university, or a traineeship (a work placement in a company, research institute, NGO or similar). PhD students can also do a short traineeship of 5 to 30 days. You can go to any EU country except Portugal, plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, North Macedonia and Turkey.

Who can apply

  • Your university: You are enrolled on a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral programme at the University of Minho.
  • How far you are: Undergraduate students must have completed their first year of study before they can go abroad.
  • Enrolment status: Your enrolment at UMinho is active and has not been suspended.
  • Field of study: Open to all subjects.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are students at UMinho.
  • No double funding: This grant cannot be combined with any other EU-funded grant for the same stay.
  • Recent graduates: You can do a traineeship for up to 12 months after finishing your degree, but you must apply while still enrolled.

How to apply

For a study period, you submit an online pre-application through UMinho's mobility platform. For the second semester of 2026/2027 the window runs from 18 to 29 May 2026. Your academic coordinator then ranks applicants on grades, language certificates, outstanding course units and motivation, and the international office allocates places at partner universities. For a traineeship, you first find a host yourself and apply at least 2 months before your start date. Traineeship places are awarded in the order completed applications arrive, while funding lasts.
