Faculty of Architecture Merit Award

You will receive a one-off payment of five times the Portuguese monthly minimum wage. The amount is based on the minimum wage in force at the start of the academic year. This amounts to approximately 4,100 EUR for 2024 (minimum wage 820 EUR) and approximately 4,350 EUR for 2025 (minimum wage 870 EUR). The payment will be made as a one-off lump sum by bank transfer by the National Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES). The award is presented once to the top-performing students at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP) for the year in which they achieved the result.

Who can apply

• University: You are studying at the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Porto (FAUP).
• Degree level: You are enrolled on a Bachelor’s degree programme, an integrated Master’s degree programme or a Master’s degree programme. You are also eligible to take part if you have just completed one stage of your studies and have not yet enrolled for the next one.
• Field of study: Architecture and related programmes at FAUP, such as Urban Planning and Design.
• Grades: You have passed all the modules in your degree programme for this year (totalling 60 ECTS credits) with a weighted average mark of at least 16 out of 20 (‘Very Good’).
• Nationality: You hold Portuguese nationality.

How to apply

No application needs to be submitted. The faculty automatically selects eligible students on the basis of their enrolment and academic records, draws up a ranking list based on the weighted average mark, and publishes the list of successful applicants. In the event of a tie between two students, priority is given to the student who has taken fewer modules in the degree programme. If the tie persists, priority is given to the younger student.

How realistic are your chances?

The FAUP generally receives one scholarship per study cycle each year, as faculties with fewer than 500 eligible students are only awarded a single scholarship. Consequently, only the highest-ranked eligible student in each cycle receives funding.
