University of the Azores - UAC Merit Award

Benefit

You will receive a one-off payment of five times the Portuguese guaranteed minimum monthly wage, which covers one academic year. The exact amount varies each year, as it is based on the national minimum wage in force at the start of the academic year. You will also receive a certificate recognising your achievement. The payment is not means-tested. It is provided by the Portuguese Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education and transferred to your bank account via its Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES).

Eligibility

• University: You are studying at the University of the Azores (Universidade dos Açores) in Ponta Delgada.
• Degree level: You are studying for a Bachelor’s degree (Licenciatura), an integrated Master’s degree, a Master’s degree or a higher technical vocational qualification (TeSP).
• Results: You passed every course unit in your study plan in the year the award relates to.
• Grades: Your average score across all units is at least 16 out of 20 (‘Very good’). It is given to two decimal places and is not rounded up.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Income: No means test. This award is based solely on your achievements.

How to apply

You do not need to submit an application yourself. The university selects scholarship recipients on the basis of the students’ academic performance, using criteria that it has previously published on its website. It then publishes a provisional list and a final list of the selected students online.
