About this scholarship
Erasmus mobility grant from the University of Minho
You will receive a monthly Erasmus+ grant of around 500 EUR to enable you to complete part of your studies abroad or undertake a work placement abroad. The grant runs for 2 to 12 months per study cycle. It is intended to cover additional living costs whilst abroad and is therefore supplementary funding, not a full scholarship. The exact amount depends on your destination country. The University of Minho (UMinho) in Braga, Portugal, offers this grant as part of the EU’s Erasmus+ programme. You can go to any of the 27 EU countries apart from Portugal, as well as to Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, North Macedonia and Turkey.
Who can apply
- University: You are enrolled on an accredited degree programme at the University of Minho.
- Degree level: Applications are open to Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD students. Bachelor’s students must have completed their first year of study.
- Field of study: All participants are eligible to take part.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are studying at UMinho.
- What you do abroad: Either a study placement at a partner university or a work placement with a company or organisation abroad. Graduates may undertake a work placement for up to 12 months after completing their degree.
- Enrolment status: Your enrolment at UMinho is not subject to any restrictions or suspensions.
- No double funding: This grant cannot be combined with other EU-funded grants.
How to apply
To undertake a study placement, you should first contact your academic coordinator and then submit an online preliminary application via the MoveON platform. The deadline for the 2026/27 second round is 29 May 2026. The coordinators assess applicants based on their average marks, language certificates and motivation. For an internship, you find the position yourself and submit your application at least two months before it begins. These scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
How realistic are your chances?
As only students at the University of Minho are eligible to apply, the pool of applicants is limited from the outset. However, the university points out that its quota of scholarships is not sufficient to accommodate all nominated candidates. Good grades and language certificates determine the ranking for the study placement, whilst the placement scholarships are awarded on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. If you meet the criteria and apply early, your chances are good.
