About this scholarship
Erasmus+ Mobility Grants at University Portucalense (UPT)
You will receive a monthly grant of roughly 350 to 700 EUR for a study or work placement abroad. A study placement (or a combination of study and work placement) lasts from 3 months up to one academic year; a work placement lasts from 2 months up to one year. The exact amount depends on the cost of living at your destination: countries with a high cost of living, such as Denmark or Sweden, are at the top end of the scale; countries with a medium cost of living, such as Germany or France, are in the middle; and countries with a low cost of living, such as Poland or Romania, are at the bottom end. The funding is intended to cover the difference in the cost of living, not your total living expenses. You may be eligible for additional grants for eco-friendly travel, as well as if you have a disability or are from a disadvantaged background. For longer stays, the UPT will also reduce your tuition fees by 25% of the monthly fee for 30 ECTS credits during your semester abroad. The funding comes from the EU’s Erasmus+ programme and is administered by the Office for International Relations (Gabinete de Relações Internacionais, GRI) at UPT.
Who can apply
- Where you study: You are enrolled on a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD programme at the University of Portucalense in Porto.
- Where you go: A partner higher education institution or a company, laboratory or research centre in the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia or Turkey.
- Study stage: As a Bachelor’s student, you must have earned at least 29 ECTS credits at UPT before applying. First-year Bachelor’s students are not eligible to apply. First-year Master’s or PhD students may only go abroad in their second semester.
- Graduates: For internships, you can still apply up to 1 year after finishing your course.
- Field of study: Open to all subjects.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are enrolled as students at UPT.
How to apply
You apply online via the GRI and list up to 10 partner universities in order of preference. If you wish to study abroad in the first semester or for the whole academic year, you should apply by the end of April. If places are still available, a second application round for study abroad in the second semester will run until the end of October. Places are allocated primarily on the basis of your stage of study, the number of credit points you have earned and your grade point average. Funding is not guaranteed if more students apply than there are funded places available. Once selected, you must confirm your place with the host institution.
