Beleza dos Santos Prize

You win 700 EUR in books or services from the publisher Almedina. The prize is not paid in cash. You receive it as publications or services from Edições Almedina, S.A. It is awarded once a year for the best written work on a topic in Criminal Legal Sciences (the law around crime, punishment and criminal procedure). The Faculty of Law (FDUC) of the University of Coimbra runs the prize in honour of Professor Beleza dos Santos, and Almedina funds it.

Who can apply

• University: You study at the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra.
• Degree: You are enrolled in the undergraduate Law degree (Licenciatura em Direito).
• Subject: Your submitted work is on a topic in Criminal Legal Sciences.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Fallback route: If no one submits a work, or none is good enough, the prize goes to the best-ranked student in a subject of this area. That student needs a grade of at least 'Good'.

How to apply

Submit your written work to the Faculty of Law by 31 July 2026. Read the competition rules (Regulamento) and notice (Edital) on the prize's page before you hand in your work. A jury decides whether a submission is good enough to win.
