About this scholarship
Erasmus+ mobility of the Portuguese Red Cross health schools
You will spend part of your healthcare degree programme abroad and receive a monthly Erasmus+ grant to cover your living costs there. The exact amount is set each year by Portugal’s national Erasmus+ agency. It depends on which country you are going to and is therefore not fixed in advance. There are two options: a study exchange of 3 to 12 months at a partner university (for which you must have earned at least 15 ECTS credits) or a traineeship of 2 to 12 months (at least 10 ECTS). The ECTS credits earned abroad will count towards your Portuguese degree. You will also receive free online language support before and during your stay. The programme is run by the three health schools of the Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa (Portuguese Red Cross) in Lisbon, Oliveira de Azeméis and Chaves. If you are selected but there are no more funded places available, you can still go abroad without a scholarship, subject to the same academic conditions.
Who can apply
- School: You are enrolled at one of the Red Cross’s three healthcare colleges: ESSCVP Lisboa, ESSNorteCVP (Oliveira de Azeméis) or ESSCVP Alto Tâmega (Chaves).
- Level: You are a Bachelor’s (Licenciatura) or Master’s (Mestrado) student. Graduates may apply for an internship up to one year after completing their degree.
- Field of study: You are studying a health-related degree programme at your university, such as nursing, physiotherapy, osteopathy, medical imaging and radiotherapy, cardiopulmonary sciences, podiatry or acupuncture.
- Fees paid: You have no unpaid tuition fees. At ESSCVP Lisboa, two or more unpaid monthly fees rule you out.
- Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
- Repeat applications: You cannot reapply for the ESSCVP in Lisbon if you have completed an Erasmus+ placement in the last 12 months.
How to apply
Applications are submitted online via a Google Form, which is linked on the programme’s website during the annual application period. For the 2026/2027 cycle, this period runs from 10 to 28 February 2026. You must rank your three preferred partner universities that have an agreement with your home institution. The coordinator at your home institution will then draw up a ranking list of applicants. For most degree programmes, an interview is only held to break a tie.
