About this scholarship
What you get
You get an extra 250 EUR per month on top of your regular Erasmus+ grant for a long-term study or work placement abroad (2 to 12 months). For shorter placements you get a one-off top-up instead: 100 EUR for a stay of 5 to 14 days, or 150 EUR for 15 to 30 days. The supplement is paid by Iscte - Instituto Universitario de Lisboa in Portugal through its social service (Serviço de Ação Social, SAS). It is not a stand-alone scholarship. It is an add-on to your standard Erasmus+ funding.
Who can apply
- University: You study at Iscte - Instituto Universitario de Lisboa, in a Bachelor's, Master's or doctoral programme.
- Social grant: You already receive a SAS social grant from Iscte. This grant means Iscte recognises you as a student in financial need, and it is the one condition that unlocks the supplement.
- Erasmus place: You take part in an Erasmus+ study or work placement abroad and have your Learning Agreement approved.
- Study progress: You have finished the first year of your current study cycle. Exceptions can apply for short placements.
- Where you go: Any country works, as long as it is not your country of nationality or your official country of residence.
How to apply
You do not apply for the supplement separately. The International Office adds it automatically once the social service confirms you hold a SAS grant and your Erasmus+ placement is approved. The underlying Erasmus+ application goes through the Fenix system. The International Office sets the deadlines each year.
How realistic are your chances?
There is no separate contest for the supplement. You either meet the conditions or you do not. If you already hold a SAS grant at Iscte and win an Erasmus+ place, the extra money follows automatically. The real hurdle is getting the Erasmus+ place itself, which is ranked on grades and other criteria. If you clearly fit the social-grant condition, your prospects for the top-up are strong.
