Right to Study scholarship (Conservatorio di Milano)

You will receive a grant of yearly payment of about EUR 2,100 to EUR 8,100 for your music studies at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatoire in Milan. This grant is tax-free and will be paid in two instalments. The amount depends on your family income and the distance between your place of residence and Milan. Students who live in the city receive the lowest grant. Commuters whose journey time is between 60 and 90 minutes receive a higher amount. Students who move to Milan from a distance of more than 90 minutes’ travel time and rent a room receive the highest amount. The grant also covers your regional tuition fees. The Conservatoire administers it under the Lombardy Law on the Right to Education and awards it through a selection process based on income and academic results.

You may also be eligible for additional benefits: a supplement of up to 40% if you have a disability of 66% or higher, a supplement of 20%, if you are enrolled on more than one degree programme, a bonus equivalent to half an annual scholarship if you complete your degree on time, and separate funding for periods spent abroad (600 euros per month plus travel expenses).

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatoire in Milan for 2025/2026.
• Study level: You are in the 1, 2 or 3 year of a first-cycle degree programme, or in the 1 or 2 year of a second-cycle degree programme. You must be enrolled at this level for the first time.
• Enrolment: You are a full-time student. You cannot apply if you are a part-time student or if you are repeating a year following a break from your studies or a change of degree programme.
• Nationality: Open to students from Italy, the EU and non-EU countries.
• Age: to 40 for the first year of a first-cycle degree, and up to 43 for the first year of a second-cycle degree.
• No higher degree: You do not yet hold an equivalent or higher qualification in the same subject.
• Financial need: Your family income (ISEE) must not exceed 26,516.70 euros and your family assets (ISPE) must not exceed 57,645.03 euros. You must comply with both these limits.
• Grades: You meet the entry requirements for your academic year, for example a final mark of at least 70/100 for first-year students or a certain number of credit points earned in the previous academic year.
• No double funding: You are not currently receiving any other public or private scholarship.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online using the Conservatoire’s form between 16 September and 31 October 2025. The deadline is strict. If you wish to apply for the higher rate for students living away from home, please submit your rent documents by 15 November. A provisional ranking list will be published on 20 November, and the final ranking list on 15 December 2025.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is highly selective: applicants must be studying at a specific conservatoire, meet strict age and income limits, and fulfil the academic requirements for the relevant year group, meaning that only a small number of people meet the criteria. With 32 scholarships and a budget of over 239,000 euros for 2025/2026, as well as a selection process based on a clear points system, a suitable applicant with good grades and genuine financial need has solid prospects.
