About this scholarship
Benefit
You will receive about 3,510 EUR (£3,000) per year for each academic year, provided you make satisfactory progress with your studies. For a four-year degree, the amount is approximately 14,000 EUR (£12,000); for a five-year degree, it is approximately 17,500 EUR (£15,000). The money comes from the University of Aberdeen. It is paid into your account with the Student Loans Company every April. You can receive it in addition to government loans and grants, and even alongside a merit-based scholarship, provided you are eligible for that as well.
Who can apply
- Study level: You are starting a Bachelor’s degree. If you already hold a degree, you cannot be awarded this one.
- Where you study: You are studying at the University of Aberdeen’s Aberdeen campus.
- Study year: You’ll start in the first or second year (Level 1 or Level 2).
- Where you are from: You pay the fee rate for the ‘Rest of the United Kingdom’. This means that you are from England, Northern Ireland, Wales or the Republic of Ireland.
- Financial need: Your household income, as calculated by the Student Loans Company, is less than £22,020 per year.
- Field of study: Any subject is permitted, including medicine.
How to apply
No separate application is required. You will receive the grant automatically if you meet the criteria. Simply apply to the Student Loans Company for funding of your tuition fees amounting to £9,535 and ask them to pass on your income details to the university. These figures will be used to determine whether you are eligible.
How realistic are your chances?
This grant is means-tested and depends on your region of origin, your university and your income, meaning that only a specific group of students is eligible. There is no selection process to pass: if your household income is below the threshold and you meet the other criteria, you will receive the grant. It is particularly important that you submit your application to the Student Loans Company in good time and consent to your income details being shared.
