About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive a one-off payment of up to 1,000 EUR as a grant to help cover the additional costs you incur whilst studying with a disability. This can be used to cover the higher costs of finding suitable accommodation or other support services you may require during your studies. The funds come from private foundations and are paid out by the University of Vienna. This is a one-off payment, not a monthly allowance, and only a limited number of grants are awarded per allocation round.

Who can apply

  • University: You are enrolled as a full-time, active student at the University of Vienna.
  • Disability: You hold a valid Austrian disability card showing a degree of disability of at least 50 per cent.
  • Study progress: You have earned at least 16 ECTS credits during the calendar year in the degree programme for which you are applying. Credits from conditional requirements and ‘Pass/Fail’ results are not counted.
  • Field of study: Anyone interested is welcome to apply.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
  • Financial need: Although a lack of funds works in your favour, it is only one factor in the assessment and not a mandatory requirement.

How to apply

Applications should be submitted by email to the Office of the Director of Studies. Please send the completed application form together with a copy of the front and back of your disability card. The application deadline is 21 May. A selection committee chaired by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Teaching will draw up a ranking list of applicants based on their academic performance, the degree of their disability and their financial need.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very selective. Only students at the University of Vienna with a degree of disability of at least 50 per cent are eligible to apply, and each year it is awarded to only a small number of applicants. This limited group favours particularly suitable applicants. As academic performance carries the most weight in the ranking, good current grades and the number of credits earned are decisive factors.
