About this scholarship

Benefit: what you get

The Chinese Government Scholarship Program funds a one to two academic year non-degree stay at a Chinese university - you deepen your existing field without earning a Chinese degree. It is funded by the Chinese government and administered by the China Scholarship Council (CSC). You receive a living allowance of roughly EUR 390 per month (CNY 3,000).

A full scholarship also covers:

  • Tuition fees and standard lab or practical fees
  • A university dormitory place, or a housing allowance of around EUR 90 per month (CNY 700) if you live off campus
  • Basic study materials
  • Basic medical care on the same terms as Chinese students
  • A one-off arrival subsidy and a train transfer to your study city

Partial scholarships are also available; the level is decided during the award process.

Eligibility

  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply. In practice, availability depends on whether China has a bilateral agreement with your home country.
  • Age: You are 45 or younger.
  • Study level: You have completed at least two full years of a university degree, or you already hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Field of study: All subjects are eligible.
  • Language: If your courses are taught in Chinese, you need a valid HSK certificate (a standardised Chinese language test) at the level your host university requires. Language preparation courses are available but count towards your total funded period.

How to apply

Apply online at campuschina.org. There are two routes: through the Chinese embassy or a relevant authority in your home country, or directly through a participating Chinese partner university. The general deadline is 30 April, though exact dates vary by country and can fall as early as February. Shortlisted applicants may be invited to an interview before a final decision is made.
