DGER Scholarship (Bourse DGER)

You will receive a grant of one-off grant of about 1,290 EUR for a study trip or work placement abroad lasting at least 28 consecutive days. The amount of the grant is set annually as a flat rate. At the Institut Agro Montpellier, the amount paid ranged from approximately 50 EUR to 1,200 EUR, depending on the individual case. The funds come from the DGER, the Directorate for Higher Education within the French Ministry of Agriculture. They are intended to cover the additional costs of a stay abroad whilst you are studying agriculture.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled at a French agricultural, veterinary or horticultural college (public or private) which falls under the remit of the Ministry of Agriculture.
• Your programme: You are aiming to obtain a French state-recognised degree in engineering, veterinary medicine or landscape architecture, a ‘Bachelor Agro’ (a first-cycle degree in agricultural sciences) or a Master’s degree in teacher training (MEEF).
• Field of study: Topics relating to agriculture and agronomy.
• Your trip abroad: You are planning an internship or a study placement abroad, in Europe or elsewhere in the world, lasting at least 28 consecutive days.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

You do not apply directly to the Ministry. Your university selects the applicants and submits the applications. Please hand in your documents to the person responsible for international relations at your university, usually in April or May.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is aimed at a small target group. You must already be enrolled on a specific French agricultural degree programme and be going abroad for at least four weeks. As a result, the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you clearly meet these criteria and submit your documents to your university’s International Office in good time, your chances are good. This is a standard supplementary grant for a period of study abroad, not a highly competitive award.
