"Caja de Arquitectos" Foundation - Internship Grants for the Metropoli Foundation

Internship grant at Fundación Metrópoli (arquia/becas)

You will receive 1,283 EUR per month for a 12-month internship in the field of urban planning and urban development at Fundación Metrópoli in Madrid. This amounts to a total of 15,400 EUR for the whole year. The internship lasts 12 months and cannot be extended. The Fundación Arquia will also cover your social security contributions, travel insurance and a flat-rate travel allowance of 150 EUR. The grant is paid monthly. This is an internship and not an employment contract. For the 2026 round, there are 2 scholarships available for the Fundación Metrópoli, which form part of a wider programme comprising 53 arquia/becas internship scholarships for young architects.

Who can apply

• Qualification: You are a fully qualified architect who already holds a professional qualification. Students are not eligible to apply.
• When you graduated: You finished your architecture degree recently. For the 2026 round, this means from January 2025 onward.
• Where you studied: You studied at an architecture school in Spain or Portugal.
• Nationality or residence: You are a Spanish or Portuguese national, or you hold a residence permit for Spain or Portugal.
• Field knowledge: You are well versed in urban planning, innovation and urban development.
• English: You speak English very well.
• No previous grant: You have never received an Arquia/Becas scholarship before.

How to apply

Applications are made via the Fundación Arquia’s online platform. Selection is based on your grade point average, a competition task, or both. Shortlisted candidates will be invited by the Fundación Metrópoli to an interview, during which your knowledge of urban planning and your English language skills will be assessed before the final decision is made. For the 2026 round, the application deadline was 1 April at 12:00.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very limited: there are only 2 places available, reserved for newly qualified architects from Spanish or Portuguese universities who already have knowledge of urban planning and speak English very well. This keeps the pool of applicants small, meaning that a well-suited candidate stands a real chance. The interview is crucial; so if you are able to discuss urban development in concrete terms in English, you will stand out from the rest.
