About this scholarship

Becas Ikasiker de colaboración (Basque Government)

You get a one-off grant of 2,000 EUR for a research placement during the academic year (January to June 2026), or 750 EUR for a summer placement (June to September 2026). In return you spend 6 to 15 hours a week helping out at a recognised research group or centre in the Basque Country, alongside your studies. This gives you a first taste of research work tied to your degree. It is a training grant, not a job, so there is no employment contract. The Basque Government funds 190 grants in total: up to 150 of the 2,000 EUR type and up to 40 of the 750 EUR type.

Who can apply

  • Study level: For the 2,000 EUR grant, you are in one of the last two years of a Bachelor's or double Bachelor's degree. The 750 EUR summer grant also accepts official Master's students.
  • Field of study: Any subject is fine. The research centre you join must be one recognised by the Basque Government.
  • Residence: You were officially registered as living in a Basque Country municipality on 31 December 2024.
  • Nationality: You have Spanish nationality or legal residence in Spain.
  • Enrolment: You are enrolled for 2025-2026 in a full course of at least 60 credits. Some exceptions apply for final-year, thesis, disability, family or work situations.
  • Credits left: No more than 50% of your credits still pending in the second-to-last Bachelor year, or 25% in the final year; up to 50% for a Master's.
  • Grades: Your average must meet a minimum set by field, from 6.00 in Engineering and Architecture up to 7.00 in Arts and Humanities (on a 10-point scale).
  • Timing: You have not taken more than one extra year over the official length of your degree.
  • Acceptance: A recognised research group or centre has agreed to take you on.
  • First time: You have not already held the same type of grant before.

How to apply

You apply online through the Basque Government's electronic system, which needs a valid digital certificate. The application window ran for one month from the call's publication, roughly 6 September to 6 October 2025. Selection is competitive and based mainly on your academic average. Places are awarded in decreasing order of grades.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is cut narrowly: you must be registered in the Basque Country, near the end of your degree, and already accepted by a recognised research centre. That keeps the applicant pool limited. With 190 grants on offer and selection driven mostly by your grades, a strong average puts you in good standing. Line up your host centre and apply early, since places are filled by ranking.
