Benefit

You get a scholarship that covers 50% of your course fee for a master's programme at the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED). The exact euro amount depends on which programme you pick, because tuition varies by course and campus. If your programme runs two years, the discount continues in the second year only if you passed the first year with at least 28 out of 30 points. The competition is run by IED together with the Accademia di Belle Arti Aldo Galli in Como and Kunsthal in Bilbao, at campuses in Spain (Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao) and Italy (Milan, Florence, Rome, Turin, Como). More than 100 scholarships are awarded each year. The award covers tuition only. You still pay the enrolment fee, accommodation and living costs yourself.

Eligibility

• Field of study: You apply for a master's programme in design, fashion, visual arts, communication or management.
• Degree: You have a completed bachelor's degree or equivalent, or relevant work experience in the field. If you are about to graduate, you must get your diploma before you start your master's thesis.
• Age: You are at least 18 when you apply.
• Language: You have at least B2 level in the language your course is taught in. You show it with a certificate or a video interview.
• International students only: If you live in Spain, you can apply for courses in Italy. If you live in Italy, you can apply for courses in Spain. Everyone else can pick either country.
• New students: You are applying to start a master's, not already studying one.

How to apply

You register online, choose a single master's programme, and upload your documents (CV, transcript, motivation letter, ID and language proof) by the deadline. The heart of the application is a creative project you develop around a set theme (the Brief). Selection has two stages. First, a jury of directors and professors scores your project. Then shortlisted candidates are invited to an interview.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is competitive. It is open to international applicants across many design fields and countries, so the field is broad. Grades do not decide it. A strong, well-argued project that fits your chosen course is what sets you apart. With over 100 places each year spread across several campuses, prospects are reasonable for a well-matched applicant who submits a convincing project on time.
