About this scholarship

Beques Dr. Joan Guinovart

You get a one-off payment of 4,500 EUR for a research stay of at least three months at a university or research centre abroad. Each year 15 of these grants are awarded by the Societat Econòmica Barcelonesa d'Amics del País (SEBAP), a Barcelona association, together with the 'la Caixa' banking foundation. The award supports fields tied to Barcelona's development, such as economics, historical research, urban and regional planning, industry, education policy and health. The money helps cover your time researching abroad. It does not pay your travel costs, so you fund those yourself.

Who can apply

  • Who you are: You are a teacher, a researcher or a PhD student.
  • Where you study or work: You are attached to a university or research centre in Catalonia.
  • Age: You are under 35 on the day you submit your application.
  • Where you go: You use the grant for a research stay abroad of at least three months, outside Catalonia.
  • Field: Your work fits one of the areas linked to Barcelona's development, for example economics, history, urban planning, industry, education policy or health.
  • Other funding: You cannot combine this grant with a similar award from another institution.

How to apply

Fill in the application form on the Amics del País website and submit it with your documents. You need an invitation letter from the host centre abroad and a letter of recommendation. For the 2025-2026 round you can apply from 4 November to 31 December 2025. A jury draws up a shortlist and may invite finalists to an interview before deciding.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is aimed at a small group: you must be under 35, tied to a Catalan university or research centre, and working in one of the listed fields. With 15 grants each year, your odds are far better than for open scholarships if you clearly fit those conditions. A confirmed invitation from a host centre abroad and a strong recommendation will set your application apart.
