Bourse Mermoz

Benefit

You get up to 335 EUR per month (77.40 EUR per week) for time abroad during your studies. This can be an internship in a company or NGO, a semester or study year at a foreign university, or a research stay in a lab. The money comes from the Hauts-de-France region in northern France. Funding runs for the length of your stay, from 2 weeks up to 26 weeks.

The exact amount depends on your family's income, worked out from your tax assessment. You get the full rate if your family quotient (taxable income divided by the number of tax shares) is between 0 and 12,000 EUR. You get a reduced rate up to 30,000 EUR, and nothing above that. The smallest payout is 150 EUR.

Students with a disability get 25% more plus a 400 EUR travel lump sum. Students who already receive French state student aid (CROUS) get a 300 EUR travel lump sum. You can combine the Bourse Mermoz with your CROUS grant and with Erasmus funding.

Eligibility

• Where you study: You are enrolled at a partner higher-education institution in the Hauts-de-France region. It must be state-recognised and able to award national diplomas.
• Level: Open from BTS and first-year students on a compulsory placement up to doctoral level. Research stays abroad are for students in their 6th to 8th year of study.
• Field of study: All subjects.
• Where you go: Any foreign country, except French overseas territories, Monaco and Andorra. You cannot go to a country of your own nationality. You must actually live there during the stay, with no daily commuting home and no distance learning from France.
• Residence: If you are a foreign student, you must have lived in France for at least 2 years.
• Not eligible: Students on a gap year, students in professional-training funding, students already getting another region's mobility grant, or students who have already received the Bourse Mermoz (research stays are the exception).

How to apply

First present your project to your institution's international relations or internship office. They check its academic quality and validate it on the platform. Without this step, no grant is possible. Then submit your own application online before your stay ends. The region makes the final decision.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is tied to one region: you must study at a Hauts-de-France partner institution and complete a genuine stay abroad, so the eligible group is limited to local students. If you fit those conditions, your school validates your project, and your family income falls in the funded range, your prospects are good. It rewards a clear, well-documented placement rather than academic competition.
