About this scholarship
Charpak Master's Scholarship
For a full-time Master’s programme in France lasting one or two years (M1 and/or M2), you will receive a monthly living allowance of 860 EUR. The French government funds this scholarship through Campus France India. It may be renewed once for the second year, subject to your results in the first year. In addition to the financial support, you will receive: exemption from visa and Campus France processing fees, student social security and supplementary health insurance, support in finding affordable student accommodation with priority access to CROUS halls of residence, meals in canteens for 1 EUR, and cultural activities. As a French government scholarship holder, you may be exempt from the higher tuition fees at public universities; however, please check with your university. Travel costs to or within France are not covered.
Who can apply
- Nationality: You are an Indian citizen or the holder of an OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) card.
- Age: At the time of application, you are 30 or younger.
- Your degree: You are currently enrolled on a full-time Master’s programme in France, or have already been admitted to one. Semester-long exchange programmes, work placements and purely research-based projects do not count towards this.
- Where you study: The entire degree programme must be completed in France. A semester abroad is not funded.
- Field of study: Any topic is fine.
- French: Knowledge of French is an advantage, but not a requirement.
- Prior education: You are currently enrolled at an Indian university or have completed your studies there. Graduates from foreign universities may apply, but preference will be given to those with Indian qualifications.
- Admission first: You must have already applied to a French higher education institution before you can apply for this scholarship.
- Not eligible: Postgraduate students, anyone coming to France solely for the purpose of a doctoral thesis, further training or a research project, and former graduates of the Charpak Master’s programme.
How to apply
Apply online via the Institut Français scholarship portal by 8 June. A selection panel will first assess your application documents in terms of your academic achievements and the quality of your personal statement (the essay in which you explain why you wish to study your subject in France). There is no minimum grade requirement, but motivation letters written by AI will be excluded. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to an online interview.
How realistic are your chances?
This scholarship is open to Indian students from all disciplines, meaning that the pool of applicants is diverse and there is genuine competition. There are no minimum grade requirements, so selection depends on a compelling, authentic personal statement and a coherent overall profile. If you have already been admitted to a French higher education institution and can demonstrate a clear, well-reasoned motivation, your chances are good. A plagiarised or AI-generated personal statement will result in immediate disqualification.
