About this scholarship

Benefit

You get a one-off 4,500 GBP (about 5,300 EUR) for your placement year. This is the Diploma of Professional Studies, which runs from September 2026 through the 2026/27 academic year. If you count as a Home student, the money goes towards tuition fees, course costs and living expenses. If you are an International student, it covers part of your tuition fees only. Two awards are given each round. The funder is the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers, a historic City of London trade guild that has supported shoemaking training for centuries.

Eligibility

  • Course: You are in the second year of the full-time BA (Hons) Cordwainers Footwear course at London College of Fashion, UAL.
  • Placement year: You are about to start the Diploma of Professional Studies, a year-long work placement in industry, from September 2026.
  • Nationality: Both Home and International students can apply. EU students with Overseas fee status count as International, so they get the tuition-only version.
  • Financial need: Your household income is 100,000 GBP a year or less.
  • Merit: You have strong academic results and can show creative quality in your work.

How to apply

You apply through the online form in the UAL Student Portal. Upload a portfolio as one PDF focused on your sustainability work, your CV, and proof of your household income. The deadline is 11pm UK time on Sunday 17 May 2026. Late or incomplete applications are not accepted. Shortlisted students are invited to a panel interview.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut very narrowly. Only second-year BA Cordwainers Footwear students at one London college heading into their placement year can apply, so the pool is tiny. With just two awards per round, selection still comes down to financial need plus a convincing portfolio. If you clearly fit the course and can document your household income, your prospects are genuinely good.
