CTU scholarships for international students

Whilst studying at the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU/CVUT), you will receive a monthly allowance to cover your living costs. Master’s students receive up to about 400 EUR per month (CZK 10,000), whilst PhD students receive up to approximately 640 EUR per month (CZK 16,000). A Master’s scholarship generally runs for 1 to 2 semesters. In the case of outstanding academic performance, it may be extended up to the standard duration of your degree programme. A PhD scholarship initially runs for a period of 6 to 12 months and may also be extended up to the maximum duration of the PhD programme. Half of the funding comes from CTU’s central budget and half from your faculty.

Who can apply

• Level: You are already studying, or are about to start, a Master’s or PhD programme at CTU. PhD programmes must be taught in English.
• Nationality: Open to all non-Czech students.
• Field of study: All the subjects taught at CTU, such as engineering, computer science, architecture, civil engineering, electrical engineering, transport and biomedicine.
• Keeping it: To extend your funding, you must pass all the modules in your first year of study by the deadline. If you fail any of them, the extension will end.
• Not eligible: Erasmus, Erasmus Mundus and other exchange students, as well as anyone already receiving a government grant or any other scholarship.

How to apply

First, obtain approval from your faculty. Then submit the application form via your faculty’s International Office to the Department of International Relations at the CTU Rector’s Office. The decision is made by a Vice-Rector on the basis of a recommendation from the Committee of Vice-Deans. No public deadline is specified.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is awarded exclusively to non-Czech students who enrol at CTU, and excludes exchange students and other scholarship holders, meaning that the target group is already quite specific. If you have been admitted to a Master’s or PhD programme there and are not receiving any other scholarship, your chances are quite good. Good academic performance is crucial for receiving the scholarship, as renewal depends on you passing your first-year modules on time.
