About this scholarship
What the Cyprus State Scholarship gives you
You will receive a government grant of up to about 6,840 EUR for 12 months to cover your tuition fees and living costs. This is a grant, not a loan, so you will never have to repay this amount. The annual ceiling depends on your course of study: up to approximately 3,000 EUR for a bachelor’s degree and up to approximately 4,000 EUR for a master’s or doctoral degree. The funding comes from the Cyprus State Scholarship Foundation (IKYK), a public body under the authority of the country’s Ministry of Finance. You may use it to study abroad.
Who can apply
- Level of study: You are about to start a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD programme, or are already studying on one.
- Where you study: You are studying abroad at a recognised higher education institution.
- Field of study: Any topic is fine.
- Nationality: You are a Cypriot national. Some calls for applications are also open to EU citizens and non-EU citizens, and Greek nationals who have been admitted to a state university in Cyprus may also be eligible to apply.
- Grades: You have achieved very good exam results. The selection process is partly based on your academic performance.
- Circumstances: Your income and any health issues also play a part, so financial or personal hardship may improve your chances.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online via the government portal gov.cy using a verified CY-Login account. There are separate calls for applications for Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD programmes. If you already hold a valid scholarship agreement for the same level of study, you do not need to apply again. The application period for the year 2025/2026 ran from 16 March to 8 April 2026, with the deadline for applications falling on 15:00.
How realistic are your chances?
This is a nationwide scholarship programme open to most Cypriot students across all disciplines; as a result, there is a large pool of applicants, and academic results determine the ranking. Your chances of success will improve if you can demonstrate outstanding academic results and provide evidence of financial or health-related hardship, which the foundation takes into account alongside academic merit. Be sure to apply within the short application window in the spring, as late or incomplete applications will be rejected.
