About this scholarship

Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM) scholarship

The best-ranked students get a full scholarship of 1,400 EUR per month for up to 24 months, which adds up to as much as 33,600 EUR. On top of this monthly living allowance, the scholarship covers your full tuition and gives a contribution towards travel and visa costs. You study for a joint master's degree run by a group of at least three universities in at least three countries. So you spend study periods in different countries and graduate with either one shared degree certificate or several certificates from the partner universities. The scholarships are funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ programme.

Who can apply

  • Degree: You have a bachelor's degree (your first university degree), or you are in your final year and will graduate before the master's starts. An officially recognised equivalent counts too.
  • Field of study: Any subject. Over 180 master's programmes across a wide range of fields are on offer.
  • Nationality: Anyone, from any country in the world.
  • Moving countries: You must be willing to study in at least two different countries. Both must differ from where you live when you enrol, and at least one must be in the EU or an associated country.
  • Grades: The full scholarships go to the top-ranked applicants, so strong academic results matter.

How to apply

You apply directly to the university or consortium (the group of universities) running the master's you choose, not to the EU. In most cases the application window runs from October to January for courses starting the next academic year. Each programme sets its own deadline and its own entry requirements, which you find on that programme's website.

How realistic are your chances?

These are competitive, well-known scholarships open to students worldwide, and only the top-ranked applicants for each master's win the full funding. Your prospects improve a lot if you target a programme that fits your background closely, show strong grades, and apply early within its window. Note that not every master's in the catalogue offers EU scholarships in a given year, so check availability on the programme's own page before you commit.
