About this scholarship
Finnish language and culture research scholarship (EDUFI)
You will receive 1,900 EUR per month for a research stay at a university in Finland for up to 12 months. The scholarship is aimed at PhD students and researchers working on the Finnish language, Finnish culture or the Finno-Ugric languages. This language family includes Finnish, Estonian and Hungarian. The scholarship is awarded by the Finnish Education Agency (EDUFI), which promotes the teaching and study of the Finnish language at universities outside Finland.
Who can apply
- Level: You are a PhD student or a researcher.
- Where you study now: You work at a university outside Finland.
- Field of study: Your research focuses on the Finnish language, Finnish culture or the Finno-Ugric languages.
- Where you go: You are carrying out your research at a university in Finland.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
How to apply
Applications must be made via your host university in Finland, which will submit the application on your behalf. The two application deadlines are 30 April and 31 October.
How realistic are your chances?
This scholarship is aimed at a small target group. You must have a specific research focus within the field of Finnish studies or Finno-Ugric studies, as well as a host university in Finland that is willing to accept you, meaning that the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you are clearly active in this field and have already found a host university in Finland, your chances are good. Securing a host university at an early stage is the biggest hurdle, not the competition itself.
