Harry Schaumans Foundation

What you get

If you are a Swedish-speaking student from Ostbottnien in Finland, you may be eligible for student grants and scholarships (monthly payments to help fund your studies or research). This support is available in various forms:

• Study grants for full-time university and polytechnic students who have started their thesis.
• Postgraduate stipends from 1,600 to 1,700 EUR per month for 3 to 6 months.
• Postdoctoral stipends from 2,600 EUR per month for 6 or 12 months.

The foundation awards over one million euros every year. In the year 2026, the total amount was 1,500,000 euros. Your money does not come directly from the foundation, as it exclusively supports universities, organisations and associations. For individuals, the money is channelled through its partner, Svensk-Österbottniska Samfundet (SÖS), which receives 70 per cent of the annual allocation.

Who can apply

• Language: You are a Swedish-speaking pupil.
• Where you are from: You live in Ostbottnien (Österbotten) in Finland.
• Enrolment: You are studying full-time at a university or university of applied sciences.
• Study phase: For a study grant, you have already started your thesis.
• Field of study: All topics, including research, culture and the arts.

How to apply

As a student, you apply to the partner organisation SÖS rather than directly to the Harry Schaumans Foundation. Please use the SÖS online system to do so. You can apply for scholarships twice a year, in March and September. Make sure you apply during the correct period, as that is when the applications are assessed.
