About this scholarship
Finnish Foundation for Share Promotion research grant
You receive a research grant to fund a project on investing and capital markets. The foundation does not state the amount. As a rule the money is paid out in the year it is awarded, and you then have two years to report how you used it. The grant comes from the Finnish Foundation for Share Promotion (Pörssäätiö), a non-profit founded in 1985 that promotes share investing and financial literacy in Finland. Travel costs are not covered.
Who can apply
- Level: You are engaged in research, usually at Master’s, PhD or postdoctoral level. The Foundation primarily funds research carried out after the completion of a Master’s degree. It does not fund Bachelor’s degree programmes or student exchange programmes.
- Field of study: Your research focuses on how people save and invest in shares, and how capital markets function. Applied projects with practical benefits are particularly welcome.
- New work only: The research projects must still be ongoing. Projects that have already been completed will not be funded retrospectively.
- Who submits: You are applying on your own behalf, or a team leader is submitting the application on behalf of a research group.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. You may submit your application and supporting documents in Finnish.
How to apply
Apply every spring by 31 March using the Foundation’s online form. To register, you will need Finnish bank login details or a mobile certificate. The Foundation reviews the applications, in some cases with the assistance of external experts, and the Board of Trustees makes its decision at its second spring meeting, which usually takes place in May.
How realistic are your chances?
This scholarship is narrowly defined. It is intended exclusively to fund research into investment and capital markets, which is why far fewer applicants apply for it than for open scholarships. If your project clearly falls within this field – particularly application-oriented work – your chances are good. In addition to academic merit, the committee may also take into account diversity factors such as gender, the region of the university and the field of study.
