About this scholarship
What You Get
The Indonesia-Austria Scholarship Programme (IASP) funds a full doctoral degree at an Austrian university for 36 months (about 3 years), including a 9-month preparatory phase at the start. The scholarship covers tuition fees, international travel costs, a monthly living allowance, health insurance, and a settlement allowance for families from the third semester onwards. Up to 15 new scholarships are awarded each study year. In exceptional cases, the funding can be extended by up to two additional semesters.
Who Can Apply
- Nationality: You are an Indonesian citizen.
- Employment: You hold a permanent lecturer position at a university under Indonesia's Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (KEMDIKTISAINTEK).
- Lecturer registration number: You have a national lecturer registration number (NIDN or NUPTK).
- No doctorate yet: You do not already hold a doctoral degree and are not currently enrolled in a doctoral programme.
- Age: You are 35 years old or younger on 31 December of the application year.
- English proficiency: You hold a valid English language certificate (issued within the last two years): TOEFL iBT minimum 90, TOEFL ITP minimum 550, or IELTS minimum 6.5.
- Accepted supervisor: You have an unconditional Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from an Austrian university or a confirmed supervisor there.
- Research proposal: You have a 5–10 page research proposal approved by your intended Austrian supervisor.
- Master's degree: You have a master's degree certificate and transcript in English (certified copy).
- Passport: Your passport is valid for at least one more year.
- Health certificate: You can provide a medical certificate from a government hospital confirming good physical and mental health.
- Recommendation letters: You have two academic recommendation letters written in English (for example, from your master's supervisor or direct manager).
- Permission letter: You have a permission letter from your university's leadership (for state universities) and/or from your regional LLDikti office (for private universities).
- Married couples rule: If you and your spouse both apply and share the same academic field, you may not apply to the same Austrian university or choose the same supervisor.
How to Apply
Apply online through the Indonesian government portal at kualifikasidikti.kemdiktisaintek.go.id and select the IASP menu. The application deadline is 1 March each year. There is typically one deadline per year, in spring.
