About this scholarship

Alfred Ebenbauer scholarship

You will receive up to 1,500 EUR as a one-off grant for a research stay of approximately one month. The amount covers your travel and living expenses, and you may also use it to purchase materials or equipment for the project. The University of Vienna awards at least two of these grants each year to support joint research projects between the University of Vienna and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Who can apply

  • Degree level: You are a PhD student or a researcher and already hold at least a Master’s degree.
  • Your university: You are studying or working at the University of Vienna or the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
  • Where you go: You will spend some time at the partner university and travel either from Vienna to Jerusalem or from Jerusalem to Vienna to launch a new joint research project.
  • Field of study: Open to all subjects.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

Applications should be submitted by email to the International Office at the University of Vienna. Please send your CV and list of publications, a description of the planned collaboration (max. 3 pages) and confirmation from the host university that the project is feasible. The application deadline is 1 February each year.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is very narrowly defined. You must be a PhD student or early-career researcher affiliated with one of just two universities, and you must have a specific joint research proposal with the other university. This keeps the pool of applicants small. If you clearly meet the criteria and submit a well-prepared application, supported by confirmation from the host university, your chances are good.
