About this scholarship

What the programme funds

You will receive funding to carry out a two-year joint research project with a partner team in Albania. The programme covers travel and accommodation costs for researchers travelling between the two countries. In addition, project-related material costs of up to 3,000 EUR per project will be covered over the two years. The programme is run by the OeAD, the Austrian Agency for International Education and Research, on the basis of a science and technology agreement between Austria and Albania. The aim is to establish long-term research partnerships and to involve more young and female researchers in international teams.

Who can apply

  • Who you are: You are a researcher, not a student. These funds are intended to support research teams, not individuals.
  • Where you work: You are employed at an Austrian university or a non-university research institution.
  • Type of research: You carry out basic research.
  • Field of study: All fields of research are welcome.
  • Partner requirement: You submit the application jointly with a research partner in Albania, who submits a corresponding application to the relevant Albanian authority.

How to apply

You must apply in English to the OeAD in Vienna via its online portal. Your Albanian partner must apply separately to the relevant authority for their institution. Calls for applications take place approximately every two years. The next call for applications for Albania is scheduled for autumn 2027; the exact conditions will be published when the call opens.

How realistic are your chances?

The selection criteria are very strict. You must be working as a basic researcher at an Austrian institution and already have a dedicated partner team in Albania, which means that the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you have such a partnership and a clearly defined joint project, your chances are good. The biggest hurdle is the timetable: calls for proposals are only issued every two years, so make sure you find your partner before autumn 2027.
