About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive 250 EUR per month for one year of training or a one-off payment of up to 3,000 EUR. In exceptional cases, the monthly grant may be extended beyond the first year. You may also use the money to purchase or maintain a musical instrument. It comes from the Karl and Lilli Till Foundation, a Bavarian foundation that supports young music students in need of financial assistance. You cannot combine this grant with the German BAföG or other grants.

Who can apply

  • Study: You have passed the entrance examination for a conservatoire and been accepted, or you are already studying there. The Foundation gives preference to the state conservatoires in Munich, Würzburg and Nuremberg, as well as the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
  • Field of study: Any music discipline qualifies.
  • Where you are from: Your main place of residence has been in the district of Altötting or in another Bavarian district for at least 3 years.
  • Age: You are no older than 30.
  • Financial need: You can prove that you need the money and explain why you have not received German BAföG or similar financial support.

How to apply

You should submit a written application via the Student and Examination Office at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, which processes applications on behalf of the Foundation. The application deadline is 4 October.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is very narrowly defined. You must have lived in a Bavarian district for at least three years, be studying music, be registered under 30 and demonstrate a genuine financial need. As a result, the pool of eligible applicants remains small, meaning that only a few people are competing for it. If you clearly meet these criteria and can demonstrate your financial need, your chances are good. As a local foundation, it favours clear, well-documented cases.
