What You Get

This scholarship pays €750 per month (paid out 12 times a year) to cover living costs during your studies in Graz, Austria. If you have no mandatory health insurance, the foundation also pays for your health insurance. The length of funding depends on which programme you apply for (see below).

What You Can Study

The scholarship supports studies at universities and higher education institutions in Graz and the Styria region of Austria. It covers theology as well as other fields of study. There are four funding options:

• Second part of an undergraduate degree: Funded for the standard study duration plus up to 2 extra semesters.
• Doctoral (PhD) programme: Funded for a maximum of 3 years.
• Training at a teacher-training college or similar institution: Funded for the required programme duration.
• Short courses and continuing education: Covers seminars, courses, and programmes run by church or public adult-education bodies, education centres, or socially engaged organisations.

Who Can Apply

• Home country: You come from Eastern Europe, Central Europe, Southeast Europe, the Middle East, or a country affected by the "Arab Spring".
• Religion: You are a member of a Christian church.
• Language: You have German language skills.
• Study location: You will study at a university or college in Graz or the Styria region of Austria.
• Return commitment: You intend to return to your home country after completing your studies. If you do not return, you must repay the scholarship.

Additional requirements vary by programme. For example, applicants for the undergraduate or doctoral tracks must provide a letter of recommendation from their academic supervisor and from the relevant church authority (called an Ordinarius — the senior church official responsible for your area). Applicants for the teacher-training track must also show proof of a job offer waiting for them at home.

Important Conditions

• Funding is awarded based on available budget — there is no legal right to receive a scholarship.
• Applications are ranked by how well they meet the eligibility criteria.
• If your academic progress is not satisfactory, payments can be stopped.
