Summer Programme in Chemistry - University of Novi Sad, Serbia and TU Graz

What the programme offers

You spend two months, July and August, doing hands-on lab work in chemistry at TU Graz (Graz University of Technology) in Austria. You work on a real research project in the lab. Past students worked on the organic synthesis of enzyme inhibitors, the synthesis of MOF particles (metal-organic framework materials), and the making of nano-materials. The programme runs through Erasmus+ as a traineeship. You apply for an Erasmus+ grant and travel allowance through your home university, the University of Novi Sad. TU Graz does not set a grant figure, since the money is arranged through Erasmus+ at Novi Sad.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled as a student at the University of Novi Sad in Serbia.
• Field of study: You study chemistry or a related subject. The placement is at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at TU Graz.
• Nomination: The University of Novi Sad must nominate you. You cannot apply to TU Graz directly.

How to apply

First apply at the University of Novi Sad. It selects its students and passes the names to TU Graz between February and March. You then get an access code and further details by email to finish the online application at TU Graz. Ask the University of Novi Sad for its internal deadline.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a narrow programme between two universities. Only chemistry students at the University of Novi Sad can take part, and each summer just a handful go (four students joined in 2022). That keeps the pool small. If you study the right field in Novi Sad and get your university's nomination, your prospects are good. The nomination is the real gate, so apply early through your faculty.
