What you get
The Arbeiterkammer Steiermark (Styrian Chamber of Labour) pays a one-off cash award for completed academic theses on workers' rights, labour markets or related social topics. The amount depends on thesis type: EUR 250 for a bachelor's thesis, EUR 500 for a diploma or master's thesis, and EUR 750 for a dissertation.
Who can apply
- Institution: Your thesis was written at an Austrian university, Fachhochschule or Pädagogische Hochschule as part of a regular consecutive degree programme.
- AK membership link: You, a parent, a spouse or a live-in partner (shared registered address required) must be a member of AK Steiermark.
- Thesis status: Your thesis is already formally passed and graded before you apply.
- Topic: Your work has a clear connection to labour and employment. This includes labour and social law, income distribution, work-life balance, gender equality, consumer protection, occupational health and safety, adult education, or the history of the labour movement.
- No other funding: Your thesis has not received funding from any other source.
- Retirement: You are not yet entitled to a state retirement pension at the time of application.
- Nationality: Open to all nationalities.
How to apply
Applications open on 1 January each year. Submit by 31 July (postmark counts) to AK Steiermark. You send the official application form, a bound copy of the thesis, the examiner's assessment and a short abstract. Successful applicants are notified in writing; awarded theses are presented at a ceremony in Graz in late autumn.
