The Ingvar Kamprad Scholarship

The Faculty of Industrial Design at Lund University in Sweden is awarding two scholarships. Both are aimed at students on the two-year Master’s programme in Industrial Design. The living-expenses scholarship scholarship, worth SEK 128,400 per year (about 11,900 EUR), covers your rent and living costs from August to July in both academic years. The tuition-fee scholarship award, worth SEK 270,000 per year (about 25,000 EUR), is granted over two years and covers your full tuition fees, which are paid directly to the university. Two scholarships of each type are awarded each year. You may apply for one or both.

Who can apply

• Programme: You have been admitted to the Master’s programme in ‘Industrial Design’ at Lund University. This is a prerequisite for both scholarships.
• Degree: You hold a Bachelor’s degree relevant to the degree programme.
• Portfolio: You must submit a digital portfolio of your own design work. Selection for the scholarship to cover tuition fees will be based on this portfolio.
• English: You meet the 6 level of English required for the degree programme.
• Living-expenses scholarship: Open to all enrolled students, regardless of their nationality. Selection is based on a personal statement of purpose.
• Tuition-fee scholarship: This applies only to citizens from countries outside the EU/EEA, as only they are required to pay tuition fees in Sweden.

How to apply

Please complete the scholarship application form on the Faculty of Engineering (LTH) website and tick the box indicating which scholarship you wish to apply for – one or both. If you are applying for the living expenses grant, please enclose a personal statement explaining why you should be awarded this grant. The application deadline is 13 April.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is very narrowly defined: only students who have been admitted to a specific Master’s programme can apply, so the pool of applicants is small. However, you must first secure a place on a sought-after design course, and only two scholarships are awarded each year. If you have already been admitted and can present a strong portfolio or a compelling personal statement, your chances are good.
