Malmö University Master's Scholarship (MUMS)

At Malmö University in Sweden, you will receive a tuition fee waiver. This will cover either all or part of your tuition fees. Tuition fees for an English-taught Master’s programme total approximately 110,000 SEK to 430,000 SEK (approximately 9,700 to 38,000 EUR), depending on the subject area and duration of the programme. This funding reduces these costs or covers them in full. If you successfully complete the first year of a two-year Master’s programme – that is, if you earn at least 45 credits in that year – the exemption will also apply to the second year. Malmö University funds the scholarship and awards only a small number of them each year. The exemption does not cover living costs, accommodation, travel expenses or insurance; you must budget for these yourself.

Who can apply

• Who pays fees: You are a national of a country outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland, so you are required to pay tuition fees. Students from these regions study free of charge and are not eligible to apply.
• Level: You are applying for an English-taught Master’s programme at Malmö University.
• Field of study: Any master’s degree programme taught in English counts.
• First choice: When applying, please list this degree programme at Malmö University as your first choice.
• Admission: You have been admitted to your first-choice degree programme.
• Timing: You are applying in the first round of admissions, not in a later one.
• Merit: Your grades, CV and personal statement will be taken into account during the selection process. In your personal statement, you should explain why you have chosen this degree programme and how it relates to your community involvement.

How to apply

First, apply for your Master’s programme during the first admissions round and indicate the programme at Malmö University as your first choice. Once you have been admitted, the university will send eligible students separate instructions on how to apply for the scholarship. Scholarship recipients will receive a response by the end of April. If you do not receive a response, you have not been selected.

How realistic are your chances?

The scholarship is awarded exclusively to students from non-EU/non-EEA countries who list Malmö as their first choice and are admitted; the pool of applicants is therefore smaller than for open scholarships. Nevertheless, only a small number of scholarships are awarded each year, and the selection process takes into account grades, CVs and personal statements equally. Good grades alone are no guarantee of receiving the scholarship. If you clearly fall into the category of fee-paying students, apply in the first round and can demonstrate relevant experience as well as a valid reason for your choice of study programme, your prospects are good.
