Foundation for Education and European Culture (IPEP) scholarship

You will receive a one-off payment of up to 12,000 EUR for one academic year to undertake a Master’s or PhD programme abroad. The Greek foundation IPEP, founded in 2006 by Nikos and Lydia Tricha, supports studies and research projects relating to European culture. Each year, it awards 16 grants: 8 worth up to 12,000 EUR for postgraduate students studying abroad, 4 worth up to 6,000 EUR for postgraduate students in Greece, and 4 worth up to 6,000 EUR for postdoctoral researchers. This page focuses on the scholarship for studying abroad. Your supervisor will submit progress reports to the Foundation.

Who can apply

• Level: You are starting or are currently undertaking a Master’s or PhD programme abroad. Postdoctoral researchers should apply via a separate procedure.
• Where you go: You are studying at a recognised higher education institution outside Greece.
• Admission: You have already received written confirmation that your university has accepted you.
• Field of study: Any subject.
• Grades: Your bachelor’s degree must be equivalent to at least a 8 grade from 10 or an equivalent grade from a recognised foreign higher education institution.
• Languages: You can demonstrate that you are proficient in two foreign languages.
• Financial need: You provide evidence of your own income and that of your parents by means of tax certificates. Both good grades and financial difficulties are taken into account in the selection process.

How to apply

Register on the Foundation’s website and submit your application and the required documents online. These include two letters of recommendation, which your lecturers must submit directly. The application deadline is 17 April. If you pass the first round, the committee will invite you to an interview via Teams or Zoom.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is restricted to Greek PhD students going abroad, and there are only 8 places available each year. The pool of applicants is therefore small, but the requirements are clear: a bachelor’s degree grade of at least 8 out of 10, as well as proof of proficiency in two foreign languages. If you meet these requirements, can demonstrate financial need and already hold a letter of admission, your chances are good. A compelling research proposal and the early, complete submission of your application documents will help you stand out from other applicants.
