International Orientation Scholarship (University of Nottingham)

You will receive up to £2,000 per year (about 2,300 EUR) for a single-subject degree in Mathematics or £1,000 per year (about 1,150 EUR) for a dual-subject degree, such as Mathematics and Economics. The Faculty of Mathematics awards this honour to its best international undergraduate students. You will receive it in your first year of study, and it will be renewed each subsequent year provided you continue to achieve good results. It can therefore be awarded for the entire duration of your degree programme.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled as a full-time student on a Bachelor’s degree programme in Mathematics at the School of Mathematical Sciences, University of Nottingham, in the United Kingdom.
• Field of study: A degree in mathematics. This includes both single-subject degree programmes (e.g. BSc in Mathematics or MMath) and combined degree programmes (e.g. Mathematics and Economics).
• Nationality: You are an international student from a non-EU country.
• Grades: On your first attempt, you achieve a result equivalent to a 2:1 honours degree or better. A 2:1 is the second-highest classification in the UK higher education system.
• Timing: You won’t receive any money for each year you have to repeat.

How to apply

No separate application is required. Eligible international students are automatically considered on the basis of their marks, and the funding is awarded to the top students on each degree programme.

How realistic are your chances?

The award is very narrowly defined: only international students from non-EU countries who are enrolled on the Faculty’s mathematics degree programmes are eligible, which means the pool of applicants remains small. It is awarded to the best of these students, not to everyone who meets the criteria; therefore, achieving good results on the first attempt is crucial. If you maintain your grades at the level of 2:1 or above, the award will be renewed automatically each year.
