What the PECK scheme gives you

PECK is your gateway to a Master’s or PhD programme at the University of Nottingham in the UK, particularly in the fields of engineering and environmental sciences. PECK stands for ‘Physical Environmental Centre of Khartoum’. It is a foundation based in Sudan and the official representative of the University of Nottingham in Sudan. PECK handles your entire application to the university, organises a meeting before you leave, helps you apply for your UK student visa and provides you with a contact person in Nottingham to help you settle in. This support covers the entire duration of your 12-month degree programme. As no specific amount is mentioned in the sources, you should regard this more as assistance in finding a place to study in the UK rather than a fixed scholarship.

Who can apply

• Where you go: You’re studying abroad at the University of Nottingham in the UK.
• Degree level: You already hold a bachelor’s degree (BSc) and would like to undertake a master’s or doctoral programme.
• Field of study: The focus is on engineering and environmental sciences, but in principle all Master’s programmes at Nottingham are open to applicants.
• Your university: You have obtained a degree from a Sudanese university recognised by PECK, such as the University of Khartoum, SUST, UMST, AHFAD, Neelian, Future University, IUA or Ribat. Did you obtain your degree from another higher education institution? If so, you can still contact the admissions team.
• Grades: Your Bachelor’s degree (BSc) should, as a rule, be a 2:1 (an upper second-class honours) or higher.
• English: You will need a valid UKVI certificate for the Academic IELTS test. For Master’s degree programmes, the minimum score required for a UK visa is 5.5 in each section (speaking, writing, listening, reading), although higher requirements apply for some programmes.

How to apply

Applications must be made via PECK, not directly to the university. Select a degree programme on the University of Nottingham’s website and then submit your supporting documents and the online application form to PECK. The application period runs each year from 1 November to 30 April. In some cases, the university may ask you to attend a short interview via Skype.

How realistic are your chances?

This programme is strictly limited by country and degree programme. It is aimed at Sudanese graduates who are transferring to a specific UK university via PECK, meaning that the pool of applicants is restricted to this group. If you hold a 2:1 BSc degree from a recognised university and meet the required IELTS standard, your chances of securing a place are good. Apply between November and April, and please note that the university continues to set its own entry requirements for each degree programme.
