About this scholarship

Benefit

You will receive a monthly scholarship of 700 EUR for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at a state university in Slovakia, or 1,100 EUR per month for a PhD. In addition, you will receive a one-off payment of 100 EUR at the start of your studies and 200 EUR upon completion, as well as a monthly supplement of 80 EUR (240 EUR for PhD students) whilst you are enrolled. Good academic performance is rewarded: Bachelor’s and Master’s students with an excellent grade point average receive an additional 50 EUR per month, and PhD students who pass their examinations on time receive 170 EUR per year. If you did not complete your previous education in Slovakia, the scholarship will also cover the costs of a 10-month Slovak language course before the start of your studies, up to the same amount. The scholarship is awarded by the Slovak Ministry of Education as part of its development cooperation programme; there are around 70 places available for 2026/2027.

Eligibility

  • Where you come from: You are a national of a country included on Slovakia’s list of development cooperation partners, such as Ukraine, Serbia, Georgia, Vietnam, India, Kenya or Moldova. People with ‘Slovak living abroad’ status may also apply.
  • Study level: You are starting a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD programme.
  • Where you study: You are studying at a state university in Slovakia, where lessons are taught in Slovak.
  • Field of study: Any topic is allowed.
  • Language: If you did not complete your previous education in Slovakia, you should first attend the state-funded 10-month Slovak language course.

How to apply

You apply online at www.vladnestipendia.sk. The portal opens on 23 March 2026, and the deadline for the 2026/2027 year is 25 May 2026. A committee at the Ministry decides who gets a place.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is available exclusively to students from Slovakia’s partner countries, and you must be studying at a state university in the Slovak language. As a result, the pool of eligible applicants is smaller than for open international scholarships. With around 70 places available each year, competition is fierce, but a strong academic record and a genuine willingness to study in Slovak will work in your favour. Apply as soon as the portal opens in March so that you have time to prepare before the deadline in May.
