Dagmar and Joseph Samson Foundation scholarship

You will receive a one-off grant of about 2,680 EUR (10,000 to 20,000 DKK) for a study visit linking Denmark and France. The foundation awards between two and five of these grants each year. It was established in 1995 by Dagmar and Joseph Samson to strengthen cultural and economic ties between the two countries.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a Danish or French national.
• Where you go: Students undertake a study placement in the other country; in other words, Danish students go to France and French applicants go to Denmark.
• What you study: Your project relates to one of the following three objectives: trade and economic relations between the two countries; French or Danish culture and the links between them; or (for Danes) the promotion of the use of the French language.
• Age: You are a student or are just starting out on your career. The foundation supports younger applicants.
• Institution: Every university or school counts. There is no set list.

How to apply

Please submit a written application to the Foundation’s Board by 1 October. In your application, please explain the purpose and duration of your study visit and enclose a budget breakdown, your CV, academic transcripts and your most recent tax assessment notice. You will receive a response in December, and the funding will be paid out in early January.

How realistic are your chances?

The eligibility criteria for this scholarship are very narrow: applicants must be Danish or French nationals, travel to the other country, and propose a project relating to the economy, culture or the French language in both countries. This keeps the pool of applicants small, meaning that a clearly defined, well-suited project stands a good chance of success. As only a handful of grants are awarded each year, a focused application that demonstrates genuine added value for Danish-French relations will stand out.
