About this scholarship
Benefit
Every student admitted to TIGP receives a tax-free monthly stipend of approximately 1,130 EUR (NT$ 40,000) for the first year. Strong performance earns a second year, giving a maximum of 24 months of stipend funding. After that, further support depends on your thesis supervisor. Academia Sinica - Taiwan's national research institution, which runs TIGP jointly with partner universities - also subsidises tuition for five years, so international students pay the lower domestic rate (roughly NT$ 16,000-31,000 per semester). You graduate with both an Academia Sinica certificate and a degree from the partner university. Additional competitive grants are available within the programme, including a Presidential Fellowship, a Research Performance Fellowship and travel grants.
Eligibility
- Degree: You hold a bachelor's or master's degree and are applying for a PhD.
- Nationality: Open to all nationalities.
- Language: You can show English proficiency - for example TOEFL iBT 79+, IELTS Academic 5.5+, or TOEIC Listening and Reading 785+. Scores must be less than two years old. You are exempt if you are from an English-speaking country or completed a degree taught in English. The one humanities programme (East Asia and the Making of the Modern World) has different language requirements.
- Applications: You can apply to only one TIGP programme per round.
How to apply
Apply free of charge through the TIGP online portal by 1 February. Shortlisted applicants are asked to send official transcripts and original language test scores by post. Admission decisions for autumn entry are announced in July.
