International Summer School (ISS) - Government of Norway - The ISS Scholarships

Benefit

The University of Oslo’s International Summer School (ISS) offers a limited number of fee waivers for a Master’s-level course in Oslo lasting approximately four weeks (late June to late July). There are two options to choose from:

• Basic Fee Scholarship: covers the tuition fees and the registration fee. You will need to arrange your own accommodation.
• Accommodation Scholarship: covers tuition fees, the registration fee, a shared room in student accommodation, three meals a day and a 30 day pass for public transport in Oslo. This package is worth approximately 2,620 euros.

Neither option involves a cash payment, and under no circumstances will your travel expenses to Oslo be covered. If you are from Africa, Asia, Latin America, Oceania, Ukraine, Turkey or certain countries in the Western Balkans, you may apply for a separate travel allowance in addition to your scholarship application. If your application is successful, the ISS will book your return flights from the nearest international airport.

Eligibility

• Course: You are registering for an ISS course at Master’s level. Bachelor’s and Norwegian language courses are not permitted.
• Grades: You have an excellent academic record and meet the entry requirements for the Master’s programme.
• English: You meet ISS’s requirements regarding English language proficiency.
• Nationality: Citizens of the EU, the EEA and Switzerland are not eligible to participate unless they are permanently resident outside these countries (this will be assessed on a case-by-case basis). US and Canadian citizens are also excluded, but may apply for a separate programme.
• Residence: You are not permanently resident in Norway.
• Previous funding: You have not yet received an ISS scholarship.
• Selection: Financial need is one of several selection criteria, alongside academic performance, geographical distribution, gender distribution and age diversity.

How to apply

Apply via the ISS online portal and tick the ‘Scholarship’ option; your admission and scholarship application will be assessed as part of a single application process. The deadline for scholarship applications is 1 February each year. The required documents can be uploaded by 1 March.
