Turkish Government - Turkish Research Scholarships

Benefit

For a research stay of 3 to 12 months at a Turkish university, you will receive a monthly payment of about 550 EUR (25,000 Turkish lira). This is provided by the YTB, the Turkish government agency behind the ‘Türkiye Scholarship Programme’. The aim is to bring together international researchers with academics at Turkish universities. As the payment is made in lira, the actual value in euros may vary depending on the exchange rate. The scholarship covers only the monthly allowance. Accommodation and flights are not included.

Eligibility

• Academic level: You have already completed your PhD or are a PhD student currently working on your thesis.
• Age: You are under 50.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. The exception is that you cannot apply if you are a Turkish citizen or have renounced Turkish citizenship.
• Not already enrolled: You are not currently enrolled on a comparable degree programme at a Turkish university.
• Field of study: Every field of study, from engineering through the humanities to medicine.
• Grades: You have an excellent academic record: a minimum of 75% or 90% in health sciences such as medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.

How to apply

Applications can be submitted free of charge online via the Turkish Scholarship Application System (TBBS). Application deadlines are spread throughout the year across four rounds: January to March, April to June, July to September and October to December. The results are announced in the month following the end of each round. You must also submit a proposal for a research topic and a sample of your previous work.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is aimed at a small target group: PhD graduates or doctoral candidates in the final stages of their PhD who wish to conduct research at a Turkish university. The pool of applicants is therefore smaller than for open scholarships for undergraduates. If you clearly meet the academic requirements and submit a well-founded research proposal, your chances are good. Thanks to the four annual application rounds, you can also apply at a time that suits you best.
