University of Twente Scholarship (UTS)

You will receive a one-off grant of up to 22,000 EUR for one year of a Master’s degree programme (MSc) at the University of Twente in Enschede, the Netherlands. The amount covers your study costs, and you decide for yourself what to spend it on. If you are on a two-year programme, you may be eligible to receive the grant again for the second year. To qualify for the second year, you must have achieved a minimum grade point average of 7 out of 10 by the end of the third term of the first year, as well as having earned at least half of your European Credits (the standard credits for one academic year). The University of Twente funds the scholarship from its own resources. The scholarship payment does not cover your tuition fees.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You are applying for a Master’s degree programme (MSc) at the University of Twente.
• Field of study: Most degree subjects are eligible, for example Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Administration, Psychology and Public Administration. Degree programmes offered by the ITC Faculty (Geoinformatics and Earth Observation) are excluded.
• Nationality: You are from a country outside the EU/EEA. Students from the Netherlands and the EU/EEA who pay the lower statutory tuition fees are not eligible to apply.
• Admission: You must have (conditional) admission to a recognised Master’s programme at the UT and a student registration number. Pre-Master’s students and current or former UT students are not eligible to apply.
• Grades: You are among the top 5–10% in your year group at your home university.
• English: You have an academic IELTS score of 6.5 (or TOEFL iBT 90) with a minimum score of 6.0 (TOEFL iBT 20) in the ‘Speaking’ section.
• Other funding: You are not eligible for a Dutch student loan.

How to apply

First, apply for a Master’s programme at the UT and obtain (provisional) admission and a student registration number. You should then submit a separate scholarship application. This should include a personal statement of between 250 and 500 words. The application deadline is 1 April for a programme starting the following September. It may take up to eight weeks for a decision to be made.

How realistic are your chances?

The entry requirements are strict. You must be an applicant from a non-EU/non-EEA country who has already been admitted to a Master’s programme at UT and is amongst the top 5–10% in your year group. This means that the pool of applicants is smaller than for an open scholarship. With around 50 scholarships available, a well-suited applicant with excellent grades and a compelling personal statement has a genuine chance of success. Apply early, as places are limited and the two-stage selection process takes some time.
